8th Grade

Start taking one or two high school credited classes if ready and available. Really start working on a preliminary 4-year-plan in the spring with teachers/counselors.

  1. How many credits does my daughter need before she goes to Clements?

  2. Technically, none. It then depends on what she wants to take/do for the next four years. Make a plan, and you will find out yourself. The maximum amount of credits a student can earn within a year is seven (7), since we have seven periods per day. So four (4) times seven (7) is twenty-eight (28). The minimum credits required for graduation is twenty-six (26). Plus, she can go to summer school if she needs to. Did I answer your question?

  3. Thanks for open this blog for parents and students. When a 8th grader decides to take a high school courses, who he needs to ask for permission? What's the registration process?

  4. Great question! All you need to do is to speak to his/her 8th grade counselor, mainly to check the eligibility (prerequisites etc).

  5. Dear Mrs Liu, my kid is in GT program, he supposes to have GT Geometry next year. He loves math. He learned Geometry online. If he skips geometry next year, can he get the grade pont of 6? how to? CBE only gains 5, correct?

  6. Dear Mr. Liu, sorry for the typo in my last post.

  7. No problem.

Yes, you are correct. He can only gain 5 grade points if he takes CBE over the summer. It sounds like he can double up Geometry and Algebra II, both on the honors level, as an alternative. Please note that doubling-up does not mean he can get an A automatically.

  8. Thanks for the comments. Just another thought, can he take the semester exam with the current honor GT class? In this way if he gets A, he gets 6? Like you said, the A is not automatically ;)

  9. I am not sure that I understand what you are trying to ask. You mean he replaces CBE with the semester exam? No. I thought you knew about this already. CBE with no prior instruction is only offered in the summer and the passing grade is 90.

  13. Sorry for the delayed response. I did not see this posting until now, though I check my blog every day, several times a day in most cases.

The simple answer to your question is, "No." We just don't have the staff to accommodate the 8th graders.

  15. Can any counselor sign our Early Admission forms, or do we need ours specifically?
